Thamesmead Festival – Schools Parade

TARU Arts working with local schools to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Thamesmead.

From 2005 to 2009 Taru Arts had been commissioned by Trust Thamesmead to work with local primary schools and lead  a community Parade as part of the Thamesmead Festival.
Once a week, during 6 to 8 weeks we would visit the schools to make costumes, puppets, floats, to dance and bang our drums inspired by the rhythm and energy of the Brazilian Carnival.
All the making were done reusing house hold waste provided by the children and helping to rethink the impact of rubbish in our community.
