The story of Doris Grimsley mainly focused on her role in the GLC and what that involved but she mentions when they are surveying a field to see if it is possible for housing development; they come across pieces of a spitfire. I knew this had to be the inspiration of my piece. I love the abstract bright colours of it using negative space on the wires/ pipes to create different sections to fill with colour which really speaks to me compared to using metallics associated with planes. I chose to focus on the spitfire as I feel it is patriotic as a symbol to many people not just the intended audience
